The Visionary Behind the Art
Biography
Utilizing religious and historical iconography with layers of Damar varnish, I create large scale oil paintings. Beginning my education of traditional oil painting in south Texas, I was ten years old when I began my studies under Lynn Byers. I majored in oil painting at Texas Tech University for two years under Bill Bagley and Donald Durland, then transferred to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied under Gaylen Gerber, Ray Yoshida, and Laura Owens. With traditional representational training I create work that reflects the moodiness of the moon phases, grief, longing and man’s purpose.
My most recent body of work addresses the loss of my mother G’Anne Weaver who died February 22nd 2026 of Parkinson’s disease. I collected imagery from my morning readings of the Bible in Revelations and Genesis as well as phases of the moon, historical iconography, and mourning motifs. Assembling imagery that was inspired by my readings and listening to Ozzy Osborne, I created 15 allegorical pieces. I visited cemeteries, researched historical statues, scoured stamp collections and was inspired by angels.
Historically, my CV is fraught with gaps. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 when I was 40. Dealing with enormous bouts of depression and hallucinations since I was 16, I was finally pigeonholed into BP1. Raising two children and having two rounds of residential treatment centres, I have finally established as a full-time oil painter. The Yamada is my studio in Boise, where I paint daily. Throughout my life I have painted only when I was baseline or manic. I can flourish now that I have a handle on my medication, therapy and a psychiatrist.
